In the letter of Paul to the Romans (Romans 7:14) one reads, “For we know that the law is spiritual…” and the same affirmation recurs several times in our Holy Bible. Sometimes the assertion is written plainly and sometimes the claim is found on a deeper level woven into a tapestry for the mind. The latter is my personal favorite because of the AHA, AHA gem! Is it possible to live by His spiritual and holy law? Oh yes,and all one needs is love!
In other postings, I mentioned that for most of my life I had a serious problem with understanding what love is. I am convinced that the long-suffering of our Father is the ONLY reason I am here today and able to share with others. From 1 John 4:7-8 one reads, “Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love” (KJV). Let me repeat that in the way found in 1 John 4:7-8 Revised English Bible.(Emphasis mine) “My dear friends, let us love one another, because the source of love is God. Everyone who loves is a child of God and knows God, but the unloving know nothing of God, for God is love.”
When you leave God out, there is NO moral standard of behavior left. God never gave us complete liberty to behave just any way we please. We do not have the freedom to fulfill our selfish desires. God surely wants us to enjoy and appreciate all His gifts to us but He must ALWAYS be first. God, The Creator, must always and forever be exalted—and never His creations. Today’s secular, materialistic view of the universe has led to humankind’s worship of all sorts of false idols or in other words…false gods!
Fortunately, God is long-suffering and deeply concerned with the well-being of all people…even those who choose to live in ignorance of His existence. One reads in Matthew 5:45, “[F]or he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.” FAR TO MANY ignore how constantly dependent we all are on God’s loving care. FAR TO MANY choose to ignore just how fragile our very existence is! FAR TO MANY have exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshipped and served created things rather than the Creator. Okay….I borrowed that from Romans 1:21-25….but where is the love?
God is love! From Matthew 22:37-40 one reads, “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it. Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”
“[Y]ou shall have no other gods before me” (Exodus 20:3). That is the first commandment given to us from God. God is love! What have you put in place of your relationship with God our heavenly Father? The late Roderick C. Meredith wrote, “Is your time, your interest, your service taken up more with something other than the true God?” (Meredith, R., The Ten Commandments p. 8). We MUST MAKE TIME to study Scripture, pray, and just talk and give thanks to God in order to develop our relationship with God our heavenly Father. Brethren, this “time” is our life and we will get no other! “[A]nd again, "THE LORD KNOWS THE REASONINGS of the wise, THAT THEY ARE USELESS." (1 Cor. 3:20).
Competing with God - is science and far too much of our civilization. “[P]rofessing themselves to be wise, they became fools,”(Romans 1:22, KJV).“[B]ut God has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the things which are strong, (1 Cor. 1:27). ”I quote Roderick Meredith here, “Modern science is trying desperately to give mankind far in excess of its mental and spiritual capabilities for handling such forces!” (ibid, p.10). How can one ever believe they know love if they do not understand and except God’s true love? If you still need more clarification of God’s love…study John 3:16!
It is easier, by far, to just say one does not believe in God than imagining giving your own child up to be humiliated, tortured, and murdered for the benefit of others. Especially if you could not be sure that those “others” would even believe in you or that the sacrifice was made voluntarily for them out of your pure love!
