Bible Intro

I believe that one of the most exciting adventures possible to all humans is embarking on and continuing to discover the Truth contained in the Bible. DO NOT continue to just go along with what you've been told so far in your life.  We all must study and continue to study (Spiritual maturity) the Bible, (first praying for God's Holy Spirit to open our spiritual eyes and ears that we may obtain geater understanding and not simply wisdom).  So many individuals are unaware of all the discoveries that continue to confirm the historical accuracy of Scripture.  I believe today, as in times past, far too many educated people assume that current modern scholarship combined with modern science can - and does - discredit the Bible.  For thousands of years, Jews and Christians alike believed, and died (many times horrific deaths) for their belief in the Bible being the inspired word of God.  The Bible will either keep you from sin or sin will keep you from the Bible!

I would like to encourage you to use the KJV Bible.  Use other books or even versions to help you understand words, thoughts, or verses that confuse you.  My experience has been that the use of the good Bible Companion or Companion Bible, as well as a concordance (Strong's) is very helpful.  To make one's study even more interesting and exciting…take the time to look up the words in the original Koine Greek, Hebrew, Aramaic.  I will write more on language use later as translation/transliteration will change your understanding to so much of what you think you know!  Through my extensive research on the history of the Bible(s) I am convinced that the KJV Bible is the true authority and purest English translation made available to us. “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness" (2 Timothy 3:16, K JV).
This page offers information that I never gave much attention to until I earnestly began to study (not simply read) the Bible.  It is basic but turned out to be an essential part missing from the foundation of my understanding.  Perhaps this will help you also.
·         The word Bible (Biblia) means books or (library).
·         The Bible consists of 66 separate books.
·         The word Scripture is used to refer to God's word.
·         The word gospel should be thought of (IMHO) as an extended news bulletin.
·         Sin is defined (best understood by me for studying) as transgression of the law.
·         God inspired 40 different men to write down his words over a period of approximately 1500 years with near perfect agreement.
·         There were many other writers who wrote what they experienced or what God revealed to them (more on that later).

• The word testament means covenant and a covenant is an agreement.  Sometimes while studying it helps to use more familiar sounding words to help with ones understanding.
• There are 39 books making up the Old Testament (OT).
• There are 27 books making up the New Testament (NT).
• The NT and the OT are the Word of God and one must study both in order to understand God's message.
• The books division into chapters and verses was made by man (more on that later).
• The Bible, being inspired or quote breathed quote by God but actually written by man, was written in different moods (more on that later).
• Some Bibles include additional OT books known as "Apocrypha" (meaning hidden or concealed).  These are non-canonical texts, which are not considered inspired by God and cannot be relied upon for doctrine, but may occasionally be useful to clarify points of history.
• Christ Jesus and the New Testament writers never knowledged the Apocrypha as Scripture.  Though not Scripture…the Apocrypha is still (IMHO) a very important read and study.
• Some non-canonical texts written after Christ Jesus’ is resurrection are also called "Apocrypha" and these should not be trusted for history or doctrine, and were in many instances written to promote agendas opposed to Christ Jesus’ actual teachings.  In other words… One must "study" to sift out any gems.
• One must see the world on the basis of what is revealed about it in the Bible and not as economists, politicians, or educators do.
• One must see the world as God sees it and not through the eyes of our culture or time in history.
• Faith without works is dead (James 2:26).
• The Holy Spirit, the Holy Ghost, the comforter, and several other names all refer to the same entity.
• Only the Holy Spirit can apply knowledge.
• You must call upon the Holy Spirit.  He is always with you, but you must call on him!
• The Holy Spirit is a He and not an it, a mist, or any other such "thing"
• The apostle Paul is the apostle provided to the Gentiles.
• Some people choose not to believe the facts of creation presented in the Bible because it means they must acknowledge there is a God.  If they accept the fact that there is a God, then they must acknowledge his sovereign rule over them.  They must also believe his Word and do something about their evil/sinful lifestyle.  Because people do not want to change their way of life, they choose to deny the biblical account of creation and the existence of God.  "You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; you cannot partake of the Lord's table and the table of demons" (1 Corinthians 10:21).
• When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child.  I thought.  As a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things (1 Corinthians 13:11)

"No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it" (1 Cor. 10:13, NKJV).  Taken  in context, this verse refers to sin.  That just adds a whole new dimension to reflecting on the verse right?  How many times have you or someone you have heard speak use this verse out of context?

This one took me YEARS (the vast majority of my life) to completely figure out, understand, AND accept!
